Hello! I’m Erin Roy, a senior Geology major at the University of Mary Washington in
Fredericksburg, Virginia. Originally from Denver, Colorado, and later Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
my experiences living both in the West and on the East Coast have given me a unique
perspective on geology. I’m particularly fascinated by paleogeology and the ways climates have
evolved over time.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I’m a dedicated dual-sport athlete, competing in
both field hockey and diving. Field hockey has strengthened my teamwork and collaboration
skills, while diving has taught me self-reliance and focus.
During the summers, I work as a camp counselor at The Brandywine Learning Center in
Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, where I’ve developed valuable leadership skills. I am
passionate about education and aspire to become a High School Science Teacher specializing
in Earth Sciences, where I can share my love for geology and inspire future generations.
See below, my favorite geologic photos of thin sections, hand samples, and field pictures I’ve taken throughout my time at UMW.
